Baby Teething Remedies to Try at Home
Many new parents call our office hoping to find out about baby teething remedies to get through what can be a very difficult time. We understand how frustrating it can be for parents to watch …
Thus, it is critical that you take your child to our dentist office for regular cleanings and examinations. Any form of delay can result in a higher risk of tooth decay.
Regular visits will prevent cavities from forming and also allow us to identify any cavities early so that the treatment can be over quickly and efficiently. The sooner we treat the cavity, the better chance we have of preventing it from spreading to other teeth in the child’s mouth. Therefore, if your child complains of a toothache or that their mouth hurts, take them seriously. It may be a cavity, so scheduling an examination is in their best interest.
How we proceed will depend on the extent of the decay, the age of your child and their comfort level with receiving dental work. In general, here are some of the necessary steps.
We will need to start by examining your child’ teeth so that we can determine if they have a cavity and the extent of said cavity.
If there are large or extensive amounts of decay, we may also want to take X-rays. This allows us to see how far the decay is spreading inside the tooth and if there is an infection. Essentially, we need to understand the full extent of the problem to ensure that we do not leave any decayed or infected areas behind.
We will prepare your child by placing a bib around their neck and showing them the tools that we will be using.
To ensure their complete comfort, we will numb the area around the tooth we will be working on during the procedure. This way, the child will not feel anything while we treat their cavity. They will still hear the noise of everything but the process will be comfortable and over before they know it.
We must remove all decayed portions of the tooth to ensure that it does not continue to spread and cause damage. We will complete this step as quickly as possible.
We will then need to thoroughly clean the area of decay and debris before we can fill it.
We use tooth colored fillings whenever possible so that they blend in with your child’s natural teeth. No one will be able to tell that they had dental work done and the restoration will look natural.
Call our dental office and schedule an appointment for a cavity treatment for kids. Time is of the essence since tooth decay will spread if left untreated. We want your child to be as comfortable as possible and we are sure that you do too. Early dental appointments and ongoing preventative care can help to make this possible.
